Update on Comprehensive Planning 3/29/25

Greetings Isle au Haut folks,

I would like to provide you all with another update on the Comprehensive Plan Review process. Where we are and what the next steps are.

We are moving through the required plan chapters with the assistance of the Hancock County Planning Commission. They are operating under a grant that was secured to help us complete this process.

We are currently focusing on breaking the plan up into its component chapters and updating previous data and issues from the 2011 and 2016 plan documents. To date, we have reviewed completed drafts for the Recreation, Historical & Archeology, Economy, Public Resources, and Housing Chapters. As survey information comes in, the new data will be folded into the appropriate chapters. As stated, the final product will not be competed until early next year and will need to be reviewed by town voters before submission to the state.

We have also sent out the community survey and have received about 90 responses so far. The survey questionnaire will be open until May, so please fill it out if you have not yet completed one.

In January, Rita resigned from the committee. The selectboard added Derrick Sibbald and Mike Delchamp to the committee as her replacement. Her work as the team secretary was taken over by Sue Foelix.

Please remember that none of these drafts are final and at any time during this process, we will always take more comments and ideas from the Isle au Haut community. The “final” product, which is due in late 2025 will still actually be a draft until it is approved by both the town and state. Remember that the final product is a vision and general planning document, and not a work-order or mandate. It just gives us an idea of where Isle au Haut wants to go, where we’ve been, and where we are.

We will continue to meet as a committee each 4th Tuesday to move through the process.

I will continue to post updates here at the Town website for information on our progress as well as links to the HCPC site where they will have all of our draft work available for your review as we develop them.
